Green Tile Tango Adelaide Fringe 2021

 —  —

Domain Theatre Adelaide, Marion Cultural Centre, 287 Diagonal Road, Oaklands Park SA, Adelaide

A fun, entertaining show about the eccentric characters from an imaginary tango club, brought to life through a smorgasbord of original music and tango-inspired dancing, quick costume changes, French cabaret and fun sing-a-longs. Celebrates the power of community to help us laugh, cry, sing and dance to survive the rigours of love, in a place where 'everybody fits in.' Sam gets his story, Jack gets his lesson, Esta and Michele find love, and we all belt out, ‘Forget About Pierre!’ so Jaquie can reinvent herself. A visual and aural storytelling feast, of hot tango-inspired dance, slick guitar and jazz-tinged vocals. Jen de Ness: Vocals and Song Composition Bill Atkinson: Guitar and grooves and song composition

"Top quality cabaret!" Broadway World Review. "★★★★1/2" Glam Adelaide. "The Sold-out crowd was lapping it up" Weekend Notes. "Sultry, scintillating, completely mesmerising." Pizza Express at the Pheasantry Club, LONDON Green Tile Tango, an original Cabaret-style musical created by fellow composers, Jen de Ness and Bill Atkinson, will dance into Adelaide Fringe this March. International Singer, Songwriter and recording artist Jen de Ness, is a highly skilled, passionate and soul-filled performer, who gives her all in each and every show. Whether performing original acoustic-grooves and blues to thousands of festival goers or slick jazz in venues and cabaret floorshows with world-class musicians, Jen “knows how to entertain an audience” (Crazy Coqs London) and the moment Jen walks on stage, “De Ness’ distinct style is soothing and has the audience relaxing into the comfortable atmosphere she creates.” (Glam Adelaide) In Green Tile Tango the “excellent song writing” and “magnificent voice” of Jen de Ness and “superb guitar playing” of fellow composer Bill Atkinson (BWW Review 2015) are accompanied by some of the hottest and best Tango Dancers in Adelaide. Together they form one of the Adelaide Fringe festivals most diverse and entertaining acts. Green Tile Tango tells the story of the eccentric characters who frequent the Green Tile Tango Club (inspired by some real-life love skirmishes and the couples own visit to a local tango club ). Their intertwining stories come to life through a smorgasbord of original live music and tango dancing, crossed with French Cabaret and the occasional sing-a-long. The original cabaret received rave reviews Nationally and in UK with Broadway World Review describing it as “Top Quality Cabaret”, The Australian Theatre Guide calling it “both polished and intimate”, GLAM giving it 4.5 stars with “hopefully this accomplished performer will return to Adelaide soon” and Pheasantry Club in London fawning that Jen was “sultry, scintillating and completely mesmerising”. Now with the addition of some of the best Adelaide Tango dancers this show will be more colourful than ever! Two Shows will be performed across 2 Venues on 2 Dates in March, 2021. International Singer Songwriter Jen de Ness is a highly skilled, soulful performer who gives her all at every show, be it outdoor festivals or intimate clubs Jen “knows how to entertain an audience” (Crazy Coqs London) and from the moment this “accomplished performer” steps on stage her “distinct style is soothing and has the audience relaxing into the comfortable atmosphere she creates.”(Glam Adelaide)  Jen is often joined by her husband and fellow composer Bill Atkinson on guitar in various bands including Jen de Ness Sextet and de Ness Nu Vox.

Previous performances have received rave reviews from Broadway World Review who declared their shows to be “Top Quality Cabaret!” with “ excellent song writing, magnificent singing and storytelling and very fine guitar playing” , Australian Theatre Guide describing it as “both polished and intimate”, Glam Adelaide giving 4.5 Stars and Pheasantry Club in London saying Jen’s performance was “sultry, scintillating, and completely mesmerising."

Jen and Bill joined forces  again this year to present their original Musical "Green Tile Tango" for Perth Fringe where Weekendnotes declared that Jen's performance was " Engaging, relaxed and humorous, and (that she) had the audience in the palm of her metaphorical Parisian evening gloves... even 'dancing on the table' at one point."  declaring Jen to be "A natural between-songs 'chatter' and seasoned performer, having toured nationally and internationally, (who)  warmly connected with the audience.", noting  "the sold out crowd was lapping it up  and even getting involved..."  and concluding that this "lighthearted show with love-tinged jazz vocals and sassy moves should hit the spot and soothe the heart."
